Please check our previous Imperial Council thread for any questions left unanswered

Welcome to the Imperial Council of r/eu4, where your trusted and most knowledgeable advisors stand ready to help you in matters of state and conquest.

This thread is for any small questions that don't warrant their own post, or continued discussions for your next moves in your Ironman game. If you'd like to channel the wisdom and knowledge of the master tacticians of this subreddit, and more importantly not ruin your Ironman save, then you've found the right place!

Important: If you are asking about a specific situation in your game, please post screenshots of any relevant map modes (diplomatic, political, trade, etc) or interface tabs (economy, military, ideas, etc). Please also explain the situation as best you can. Alliances, army strength, ideas, tech etc. are all factors your advisors will need to know to give you the best possible answer.

    Tactician's Library:

Below is a list of resources that are helpful to players of all skill levels, meant to assist both those asking questions as well as those answering questions. This list is updated as mechanics change, including new strategies as they arise and retiring old strategies that have been left in the dust. You can help me maintain the list by sending me new guides and notifying me when old guides are no longer relevant!

Calling all imperial councillors! Many of our linked guides pre-Dharma (1.26) are missing strategy regarding mission trees. Any help in putting together updated guides is greatly appreciated! Further, if you're answering a question in this thread, chances are you've used the EU4 wiki and know how valuable a resource it can be. When you answer a question, consider checking whether the wiki has that information where you would expect to find it, and adding to the wiki if it does not. In fact, anybody can help contribute to the wiki - a good starting point is the work needed page. Before editing the wiki, please read the style guidelines for posting.

I'm not the best eu4 player, not even close. I'm at best average. But i had a great start this game. Playing as Brandenburg i got the Bohemia PU and the burgundian succession. I was perfectly managing AE, expanding into the teutons and in the HRE. It was looking to be my best start ever in this game. But then it happened. Albrecht Achilles decided to die without a heir at age 76 and now i have a Habsburg in the throne of Brandenburg. To be honest with you, i don't want to play anymore, the campaign is completely ruined for me. It just doesn't feel right. My dissappointment is immesurable and my day is ruined. What to do now?

    A question of PUs

    Posted: 26 Jul 2021 12:10 AM PDT

3k hours into this game and I still have questions everytime I play.

Whilst playing a chill Austria game the usual iberian wedding happened, Castile got Aragon who still had Naples under them, as well as Navarra. After a few years I saw that Aragons liberty desire was getting kind high, so I thought why not befriend them and then support their independence. A year later I notice that there are pretender rebels in Naples, but more importantly in Aragon. Nothing much happens for a few years, liberty desire around 35% when all of a sudden, the pretender rebels enforced their demands.

Castile, Navarra, and Naples all became junior partners under Aragon. I have no idea how. I have no idea why. It just is. How does this work? How did Aragon get all the PUs after rebels on its capital enforced demands (no rebels in Castile)?

Now there is a Spain in my game who, at almost the year 1600 has colonised ONLY the West Coast of Africa. Nothing more. They have also taken some parts of Portugal so Portugal is lagging behind in the colonisation game, England and Scotland are in a form of deadlock so they are also slow to colonise, and France, well they border me so obviously they are too poor to colonise.

Tldr Aragon did a reverse uno card on Castile and almost nobody is colonising

Do you play Ironman? How important are achievments to how you play and your enjoyment?

    Posted: 26 Jul 2021 09:39 AM PDT

I was browsing the achievements on Steam and noticed only about 30% of players have achieved the "gimme" achievements. So roughly a third of players have at least tried an ironman game.

I am proud of my self for achieving this with 300 hours in the game.
