EU4 I hate how bugged this game is. My Russia is grey and somehow there is a random P in the name. Literally unplayable. |

Posted: 06 Aug 2020 03:01 AM PDT In EU4, Mehmed II starts as the Ottoman Sultan in 1444, which IS accurate, but Mehmed is 12 at the time, and actually gives the throne back to his father Murad in 1446 in real life. It was actually Murad's impromptu abdication over the death of his eldest son which triggered the Crusade ending in the Battle of Varna, in which Murad led armies to victory. Murad could perhaps start as a general, with an event somewhere down the line where Mehmed can give the throne to his father and become heir (maybe with some penalties like a Janissary revolt if the player decides to keep Mehmed on the throne). This change would slightly weaken the Ottomans at the start of the game, being more reflective of an empire which is still unstable, off the back of civil war, still piecing together the lands it had lost. But that's just my opinion, really. I think many other tags could use some more flavour and some extra attention - the Lebanese blood inside me yearns for a Fakhreddine event chain - but the Ottomans are very usually the big enemy you have to fight or ally every single game if you want to get anywhere.
