New Byzantine Mission Tree - Flavor Universalis VII: Roma Invicta update!

New Byzantine Mission Tree - Flavor Universalis VII: Roma Invicta update!

Good afternoon! I come bearing gifts! Today, we will take a look at the new Byzantine tree coming along with the next update for Flavor Universalis, aptly titled 'Roma Invicta'.

Before we get into it, consider subscribing to the mod here, and joining the community for daily updates, suggestions, multiplayer games and more!

Now that's out of the way, behold! The New Byzantine Tree!

Quite easily the largest (yet?) mission tree of the 20+ entries in the mod, Byzantium sports 80+ missions and nearly 50 new events (thus far!). Truly, many have attempted to capture the glory of Byzantium (and subsequently Rome) by making standalone mods that add flavor to them. But, this is not just your average "restore Rome" type of tree. This won't have you go backwards, establishing old institutions in the 17th century from 800 years ago. No, this is Byzantium as it would have been, had it survived and thrived after the 15th century.

Indeed, I went as far as corresponding with several professors of Byzantine and Middle Eastern History in order to get their take on how Byzantium would look, had it survived the Ottoman Conquest. Thus, you should be prepared to witness Byzantium interacting with many early-modern institutions such as gunpowder matchlock rifles, colonialism, the Reformation, the Concept of Absolutism and even the Revolutionary tendencies of the 18th and 19th century.

This is a journey handcrafted with much love and attention to detail, to depict a course of history that could have been.

Starting off, as per the core philosophy of the mod, the tree is beautifully split into 2 parts; Conquest & Flavor.

The Conquest Part will seamlessly guide your nation from repelling the Ottomans, wrestling the throne away from Demetrios Palaiologos, surviving the Decay of Byzantium Disaster and reaffirming your position as the defender of Europe against the various hordes of the East, Ottoman or otherwise.

Byzantium will be a bit more challenging for the average player, with Flavor Universalis

The Conquest of Thessaloniki, a most beautiful and commercially important city featuring new event imaging!

A late-game event concerning new modern ideas, absolutism and parliamentarism!

The Heart of the Islamic Golden Era!

    The troublesome Serbs...

Bare in mind that many decisions you take in regards to treating newly-conquered populations such as the matter of dealing with the Turkic people in Asia Minor & Anatolia will impact future missions, requirements and rewards.

The reconquest of Naples and the eventual march to the gates of Rome will yield the prestigious Mending of the Christian Schism, if you complete the mission as Orthodox.Consequently, if you complete the mission 'The Heart of Catholicism' as a Catholic yourself, you will receive no penalties for holding onto Rome.

Catholic Byzantium will enjoy many unique and interesting rewards!

Bringing Anatolia back to the fold will open the way to the conquest of Mesopotamia, the Mashriq region and eventually Egypt, crowned with the masterfully made 'Aegyptus' mission & very interesting rewards.

Once, Egypt used to be an integral part of Rome...

After vanquishing your enemies in the Levant & Egypt, the road to Arabia is clear and the subjugation of Mecca, Medina and North Africa is yours for the taking!

Eventually, the tree culminates with the conquest of Iberia the completion of the mission 'Roma Aeterna Invicta' will allow you to prematurely declare yourself as the Roman Empire and pursue more territory in France and Europe in general.

An intricate event chain as you deliberate with the Pope, demanding help from the West!

Moving on, the Flavor part is indeed much much larger than its conquest counterpart.

Everything from rebuilding the Pandidakterion, Constantinople's prestigious university, to studying Islamic Scholarly texts in the famous House of Wisdom, to erecting the Parthenon to its former glory and restoring the Pentarchy, the tree gives you many goals and will keep you busy for a long time!

A famous place of thought in the height of Byzantine affluence!

What is an Empire without a properly powerful fleet ?

In this timeline, Constantinople was NEVER Istanbul! Take that, 21st century music band!

But wait, there's more! Through the Flavor branch you will interact with new institutions, such as the reorganization of the Empire, the eventual need of a constitution, various new disasters through the 17th and 18th century as well as the interaction between Byzantium and the Holy Roman Empire.

    Unlimited Powerrrrrr

Details on this event in a future teaser, stay tuned!

As always, take numbers with a grain of salt, as they may change drastically! I do not wish to type an entire book (although I could) so in the interest of not monologuing further, I will leave you here. Stay tuned for a whole lot more teasers in the server to come!

This post and my work on the mod would be impossible without your support and the team behind me.
Special thanks to Nik for doing localization and Close for playtesting, I love you guys!

As for release date, hmmmm...July. 2021.Take care, be safe, get vaccinated if you haven't and don't forget to smile!

Why don't they nerf Concentrate Development?

    Posted: 10 Jul 2021 07:31 AM PDT

Do they even plan to? Yes, I understand that this expansion caused a lot of issues and the devs had a lot of stuff to fix, but seeing it's 1.31.5 already and the biggest game breaking feature hasn't been changed yet, I'm starting to wonder, maybe they don't even want to change it?

The reason I'm kind of annoyed by this is that I avoided using Concentrate Development all this time, thinking it was an exploit (which it obviously is) and believing they would fix it eventually, I mean taking so much development from any conquered province into your capital state which is of your culture, religion and it costs 0 gov capacity cause it's your capital, without any drawbacks (that 1-3 development you lose is ridiculous), it makes no sense.

They should probably make it so that you can concentrate only from fully cored provinces and without separatism (to prevent you from lowering core creation cost), and maybe make it cause something like +2 local unrest and maybe +20% construction cost and +20 dev cost for 20 years or smth, also you shouldn't be able to take more than 3-4 development from a state in total, no matter how developed it is. F.e. the state you centralize from gives you 3 dev to your capital state, but it loses like 6.
