Gaslighting excuses from Paradox aren't excuses.

    Posted: 01 May 2021 06:14 AM PDT

Leviathan is garbage. We all know that, we all voiced it.

I am not a game dev, I'm a professional chef. Why the fuck did I gave this information ?

Because everytime I made a mistake in the Kitchen, if the food isn't cook perfectly, if the plate is cold, if anything happen that can make the customer unhappy, I blame myself and make sure that the customer received what he ordered.

I do not go like "Oh yeah, sorry about your food, but you know yesterday I had a really bad customer who insulted one of us." I just accept that i fucked up, and I work harder.

Yes, death threats and wishing harm to the devs is not the solution, it shouldn't even be in the discussion in the first place. But Paradox need to stop making half ass excuses. We paid 20 bucks. 20. At my restaurant, for 20 bucks you get a main course and a dessert. Imagine if every time I fucked up, I would refuse to acknowledge that. I would have closed in a heart beat.

I have 2000h on EU4. Right now I've played the first 10 years of a Poland game 4 times in a row ? Why ? Cause the first time, no events launched. At all. For 10 years. When I return to the menu and launched it again, everything fired instantly, ruining my economy, my stability and my country.

    Second game, same.

Third, was alright, but when the Elective Monarchy happened, my PU Lithuania decided that no, he would have another heir. And I couldn't do shit about it. When my ruler died, an obscure OPM got a PU on Lithuania because apparently, that heir was legit for the game.

4th Game turned alright, except the fact when I press continue after quitting, I had a beautiful world without countries in it (already happen with an Austrian game of mine.)

How in hell does this happen ?

I've played Emperor when it released. I've played Rome 2 Total War when it released. Dude I've played EVERY SINGLE ASSASSIN'S CREED game when they released. Even Unity wasn't as broken as EU4 right now.

So stop the excuses Paradox, and most importantly, stop hiding behind the "muh toxic fans are making our job hard". Yes, part of the community is toxic. And I won't defend them. I played League of Legend a lot. I've seen what a fully toxic community is. Hell, I work in a toxic industry. But you know what ? I've also learned to ignore that part. So Start Working. Start fixing your game. But most importantly, start admitting that you fucked up.

"We, at Paradox Interactive, admit that Leviathan wasn't ready to be released, and should've been tested more, because as a company that pride ourselves over the quality of our products, the Leviathan DLC for Europa Universalis IV isn't up to our standards, and shouldn't have been released as it is right now. We are working on a fix to the most importants issues, and we will be learning from that mistake by making sure that the next DLC will be quality tested by a fully fleshed out and competent team of QA."

That's what we should've been reading those last days.

Not silence or broken excuses. Admit your failure, and fix it.

For the community here, do not attack the devs themselves, don't witch hunt the workers. But do blame the company as a whole. After failure like Cyberpunk , I would have hope that companies learnt from that. But they didn't. Now would be a good time to start.

P.S : If some part of the english is broken, my bad for that. Not my first language, and I'm tired. Will correct stuff if it's badly written.

This is a comment I left when Emperor launched, and it's even more true now. Paradox owe it to themselves to have a hard look at their leadership, processes, culture and values

When you play 200 years, just for the entire world to decolonise after you load your saves... just Leviathan things

Woke up today super exicted to continue my Japanese run, 100 years into the game...

My total hours in EU4 has drastically increased since Leviathan was released.

    Posted: 01 May 2021 10:04 AM PDT

This is purely because I'm too scared to close it and lose my Japan game. So its just constantly running in the back ground.

The Lack of an Official Response from Paradox is making things worse.

    Posted: 01 May 2021 09:56 AM PDT

Took this from my post in the forums after it got moved into oblivion.

Customers feeling left in the dark, not having any idea of what's going on, is fueling more and more discussion. This turns into annoyance with Paradox, which turns into blaming Paradox, which turns into despising Paradox, and which more often then not causes either toxicity or more review-bombing of EU4 and Leviathan.

Normally, for such a terrible launch, you would have, you know, damage control? You would want to address how badly everything went down, own it, and say "here is what went wrong, here is what we are doing now, and here is how we want to change things going forward." That would be a very decent response. Such a response would quiet the community down noticeably.

Instead, we had a copy-paste generic apology that literally said "we are sorry you haven't enjoyed it." An apology that was then deleted. We had the CEO literally say "we don't care what you think." We had Paradox moderators describe death threats, which is a completely terrible awful thing, but ignoring the vast majority: the 99% of complaints which are valid criticisms. We had lambasts of entire communities of Paradox players, the customers, as toxic. This was taken to PCGamer instead of addressing the community.

If you release a product that is the worst-rated game on steam, there comes a point where a company should realize "maybe it's not all them, maybe it's me." There is certainly something there, what was it? Okay, tons of bugs, DLC mechanics not functioning properly or as intended, exploits, and missing graphics/placeholder graphics. Let's tell the community these things we got wrong, instead of having these problems be introduced to them by other angry members of the community, who are more likely to rile them up. Let's set the minds at ease by showing them how we are fixing this issue. Let's make some actual changes to ensure this doesn't occur again, and make that clear to our customers, so we can regain our reputation that has allowed us to succeed up to this point.

I know nothing about PR, but I as a layman, observing how good companies deal with PR, can say that's how you do it. Paradox has done none of that, and have in fact gone in the opposite direction.

Paradox. If you want your customers to stop sending that 8% positive rating further down into the ground, and if you want to regain the trust of your customers so you can have things like pre-orders and day-1 buys of your DLCs, an official response would go a long way. In most other areas, an official response would have been given the moment things started to turn for the worse. The longer you put it off, the more your customers will be disillusioned and disinterested in you, we can already see this happening. Please tell me you've heard of something like damage-control. This isn't how you go about doing it.

Ignore the bad faith attackers and the blame throwers, be the bigger people instead, and address the 99% who just question how something like Leviathan happened in a civil manner.

Paradox is being destroy by greed

    Posted: 01 May 2021 12:06 PM PDT

Recent EU4 updates have been forced out unfinished.

    Imperator is being abandoned.

HOI4 was a bit of a disaster saga.

CK3 is good but it's still shallow at launch compared to CK2 at the end of its development life.

    Why?

Because Paradox has been taken over by vultures.

The pursuit of return on investment is all that matters, now.

I would blame capitalism, but we can disagree. I would contend it is the natural logic of this system of production, when creators themselves have no ownership over their creations. It doesn't matter how deep their emotional connection is when they do not control development cycles.

Paradox thrived previously, and it's titles were absolutely amazing.

I expect nothing further from it.

The same way the MMOs have been overtaken with pay-to-win and, worse, micro-transactions.

The same way that mainstream titles like Call of Duty have been taken over by micro-transactions.

The game does not matter anymore. This isn't a criticism of the developers themselves.

Game development studios are no longer directed by game developers.

They are directed by corporate executives who only skill and talent is extracting cash from consumers.

This used to come as part of a contract that guaranteed good quality and tested games.

But who does Paradox compete with, anymore?

In the same way that Activision has no real competition.

They know we have nowhere to turn. they are no longer an indepedent studio.

They are owned by investment firms whose motivation is the same as those who have destroyed housing markets, transportation networks, and in some states, healthcare systems.

While this is not anywhere on the same devastating scale as the aforementioned, because gaming is not essential to the functioning of society, it is devastating for 'gaming'.

There is no solution within the system. Greed is the primary and only motivator. Profit is the only aim. And while they know we will continue to purchase their products, they have absolutely no motivation to improve release standards and will continue to pressure developers and programmers into business cycles that do not suit development.

And there will be no apology.

How did the devs manage to break EVERYTHING?!

    Posted: 01 May 2021 03:29 AM PDT

I know it's not good, but I get the Native American mechanics being broken, or monuments being unbalanced, or Polynesian missions being broken and tag switches not working and all the bugs relating to the actual new content, because at least they're related to actual changes or new mechanics...

But things are breaking that shouldn't even be possible. Why does the HRE emperor join every war your in if he's in a coalition? How did the devs manage to break something that's been working fine since it was introduced? How did they manage to break separatism?? How did they manage to break elections, estates, monarch deaths and heirs?

At this point, I honestly think a disgruntled dev took a chainsaw to the code and just started breaking random things. This patch is genuinely so broken I think someone did it on purpose.
