Guys, aren't you excited for when Leviathan drops in a couple of months? What are you playing in the meantime?

    Posted: 30 Apr 2021 11:12 AM PDT

Man, I am very excited for this expansion, there are a ton of features and they look soooo cool. I love all the native american stuff, the new dev-related mechanics.. it's going to be great! It's a shame we are still like a month or two away from the release. Let's hope it lives up to the hype!

What are you playing in the meantime? I think I'm going for a Manchu game, I'm tired of playing in Europe. Or maybe something in India.

What about you? Are you excited?

You know how people make those "literally unplayable" jokes? Well it isnt a joke anymore.

    Posted: 29 Apr 2021 07:03 PM PDT

Im making the arguement that the game in its current form is unironically unplayable. After everything I've seen on the subreddit for the past couple of days I wouldn't be surprised if there were over 300 bugs or more currently in the game. Save files being completely destroyed is probably one or the worst bugs I've seen and experienced myself, don't get me wrong I love this game as I have over 2000 hours but I'm starting to think all the DLCs are putting too much pressure on this 8 year old game or maybe it's just complete developer incompetence. Either way I'm starting to consider abandoning EU4 altogether and maybe buy CK3 and waste my hours into that instead.

Just do a damn open beta!

    Posted: 30 Apr 2021 06:57 AM PDT

Seriously, would anyone here not jump at the chance to help out and make the game better? It's not like people are going to play the beta and then not buy the DLC. This is a game you play for hundreds of hours. And I am sympathetic to the difficulties of QAing a game this complex.

Paradox, if you're worried about the logistics, it would be exactly like the launch of Leviathan except not a company-wide embarrassment.

    The problem with Leviathan's achievements

    Posted: 30 Apr 2021 04:02 AM PDT

Now, this is something that's bothered me for a while as an avid achievement hunter, but it's only gotten worse with each new DLC.

Achievements are often added with new DLCs, and in my opinion, nation-specific achievements should therefore incentivise players to play the nations that got exciting new features, such as events and mission trees. Examples for Leviathan are Majapahit, Dai Viet, Aceh and Tidore. Those nations didn't get achievements, though. Instead, the nations that got achievements were Deli (which has a generic mission tree and no new events), Bone (Same as Deli, but on Sulawesi), Quizquiz (a North American tribe with no unique flavor), and Pegu (which did receive new flavor and missions, but already had an achievement to begin with). And are they fun achievements? No, they aren't.

New, New Deli: As Deli, have your capital in the Delhi province.
Deli is a Sumatran nation, and the natural playstyle for it would be to form Malaya, dominate trade, and maybe expand into Indochina. Instead, it requires you to blob into Northern India, and move your capital there(?). It requires you to do illogical things, and isn't a particularly enjoyable experience.

To The Bone: As Bone, use pillage capital at least 7 times.
This one's fine, admittedly. It encourages usage of the DLC's features, and that's what these achievements are supposed to do. But why as a random, flavorless nation as Bone? There's dozens more exciting nations to play.

Quizquiz Pro Quo: As Quizquiz, have your capital in the Anjou province.
Quizquiz is a North American native in the Southeast region. but the achievement doesn't have anything to do with that. It's a nonsensical achievement, and again, the act of moving your capital to a completely different place (which will likely ruin your trade) just isn't logical.

That's No Mon: As Pegu, own at least 50 provinces that are not of the Mon culture.
This one's better than the others, but it's still generic. It just requires you to... conquer 50 provinces. That's it.

These are the only nation-specific achievements that were added in 1.31, and barring Pegu's one, none of them feature any of the new nation-specific mission trees. They're all for the sake of stupid puns, and aren't particularly fun to do either.

Here's a few that would actually be fun, and have you follow the new mission trees while not being tedious.

As Majapahit, reconquer your empire's former borders.
Before 1444, the Majapahit empire was sprawling all over Indonesia. Their mission tree has you slowly conquer it all back, and it'd make for a fun achievement that incentivises you to play Majapahit, while not requiring you to do anything gamey, nonsensical or tedious.

As Dai Viet, take the Mandate of Heaven and conquer Canton, Nanjing and Beijing.
Dai Viet's new mission tree directs you to taking the Mandate of Heaven, so why not have an achievement to encourage that?

As a Hawaiian minor, form Hawaii and conquer the entire Polynesian region.
Polynesia was one of the most anticipated new regions to play in, yet it received no achievements at all. This achievement could also be done by forming Viti or Aoteroa, and it'd still be fun and make sense.

As it stands now, the vast majority of the nation-specific achievements of the last few DLC's have been tedious and unfun, as to some more examples from previous DLC's listed below:

Eat Your Greens: Control all grasslands in Asia as Kale before the age of absolutism.

Stern des Südens: Form Bavaria starting as München and have your subject Bremen own Werder.

The Pheasant Strut: As Gorkha form Nepal and defeat Prussia with at least 100.000 Prussian casualties in a war.

They're all stupid achievements that don't make sense, and so many good achievements could instead be added.

I genuinely hope that Paradox eventually goes back to making quality achievements, as I'm not particularly planning to do any of the new ones anytime soon.
