Please check our previous Imperial Council thread for any questions left unanswered

Welcome to the Imperial Council of r/eu4, where your trusted and most knowledgeable advisors stand ready to help you in matters of state and conquest.

This thread is for any small questions that don't warrant their own post, or continued discussions for your next moves in your Ironman game. If you'd like to channel the wisdom and knowledge of the master tacticians of this subreddit, and more importantly not ruin your Ironman save, then you've found the right place!

Important: If you are asking about a specific situation in your game, please post screenshots of any relevant map modes (diplomatic, political, trade, etc) or interface tabs (economy, military, ideas, etc). Please also explain the situation as best you can. Alliances, army strength, ideas, tech etc. are all factors your advisors will need to know to give you the best possible answer.

    Tactician's Library:

Below is a list of resources that are helpful to players of all skill levels, meant to assist both those asking questions as well as those answering questions. This list is updated as mechanics change, including new strategies as they arise and retiring old strategies that have been left in the dust. You can help me maintain the list by sending me new guides and notifying me when old guides are no longer relevant!

If you have any useful resources not currently in the tactician's library, please share them with me and I'll add them! You can message me or mention my username in a comment by typing /u/Kloiper

Calling all imperial councillors! Many of our linked guides pre-Dharma (1.26) are missing strategy regarding mission trees. Any help in putting together updated guides is greatly appreciated! Further, if you're answering a question in this thread, chances are you've used the EU4 wiki and know how valuable a resource it can be. When you answer a question, consider checking whether the wiki has that information where you would expect to find it, and adding to the wiki if it does not. In fact, anybody can help contribute to the wiki - a good starting point is the work needed page. Before editing the wiki, please read the style guidelines for posting.

How I hosted a huge EU4 LAN event in 2020 - The Golden Cow

For the last 3 years every summer I organize the Golden Cow - a competitive EU4 LAN event in Moscow, Russia. This time, however, we had to deal with Corona and closed borders. And we made it!

    https://preview.redd.it/kvnhk76obms51.png?width=2000&format=png&auto=webp&s=93a375a4a42a01deca29c9436c5049c3302a913b

The Golden Cow is an event to bring together hardcore EU4 multiplayer community. That's why there's no tickets and no fees - only skill can buy you the place at the table. It's my old living dream of esport grand strategy game. The whole event is non-commercial (hello, Paradox Legal Team).

The tropfy - Golden Cow. It comes from the russian proverb 'не на корову играем' (\"playing not for a cow\" meaning playing not seriously) to emphasize that we play seriously here. The cow's pose contains a reference to the famous picture of Napoleon on a rearing horse (you might have seen it on EU3: Napoleon's Ambition art).

The initial plan was to host it in Saint Petersburg and to invite a lot of europeans. We had a big group of skilled polish players ready to come, but because of Corona borders were closed and the only foreigners we had were ukrainian guys whom we smuggled through the border (don't ask how).

The only problem with this huge sign 'Winstrike' (from Winstrike Arena club) is second 'i' which made the warscore hardly seen. Had it removed on second day.

We successfully squeezed between first and second waves of Corona, with meeting restrictions in Moscow removed. 1-4 October, 4 days of 10 hours gaming every day, The Golden Cow 2020 was online. Many good players couldn't make it to Moscow, thus we had solo players on several nations and overall player level was questionable by some, but it's the Corona again.

By micro you can see who's involved in Discord diplomacy right now and who's chilling with a second player doing the diplo

Every year I try to make the event more mature - this year we had a dedicated cameraman with a professional interviewer from cyber sports ru to conduct live talks with players online on stream. It's not just your usual OBS+webcam - much more sopfisticated tech stuff. Also we had a rule 'no swear words on stream' this year - like all big boys do.

Lots of folks came to the event to watch it live and to hang out with streamers and players.

The cost of the whole event was ~3.5k euro, a substantial raise from the last year's 1500 euro budget. The only source of money is viewers donations (which put me in 1.5k euro deficit this time LOL), but maybe next year we'll be able to attract a sponsor (if Paradox allows). This includes cameraman, tech stuff and also a traditional 'workers hut' - a huge flat for 6-10 ppl we rent for the out-of-town players, mostly students (who else were you expecting to be the best players?).

    The merch to stay safe!

Right now I'm making a montage episodes of stream + interviews with players we had during the game. Sadly this year we only had a russian stream of the event, because of all my good people who can manage the english stream were busy studying in the university. But next year we'll come back stronger and better prepared. And hopefully more top EU4 MP veterans will come to play the only esport LAN EU4 event to win the Golden Cow ;)

My Colony is Pirating my Trade

    Posted: 12 Oct 2020 07:06 AM PDT

Currently playing as Great Britain and been making buckets of ducats steering trade from east Indonesia, through India, through east Africa and up through cape to the Ivory Coast before ending up in the English Channel.

However, one of my colonies (British Mexico) has began pirating in cape significantly denting my income. Even though I have used pirate hunters to enforce a -99% privateer efficiency, hold ALL the land in the node bar one low power province held by France (who I have pu'd), and have also brought in extra light ships to protect trade, their small pirate fleet of about 15 light ships still puts a -25% dent in the node (seriously, what the fuck?).

Do I have any recourse at all against this? I've tried replacing the ruler there via the vassal tab, and improved relations to the max, yet they persist. I thought it would be a no brainier that my colonies wouldn't actively dent my trade, a loyal colony at that, but apparently not. I can't even declare a trade war on them because they're my colony!

    Totally broken mechanic.

Is there anything I can do bar granting independence just so I can kill them?
