"He led our fleets into battle in a number of wars."

"And then?"

"He became the first man to circumnavigate the globe!"

"Wow! That must have brought Mali a lot of international prestige!"

"Not really, we were already pretty much maxed out."

"Oh. And what happened to him in the end? Was he slain by angry natives? Did he return to Africa to enjoy a happy retirement?"

"Neither. He's currently exploring the Arctic circle, since he's already been everywhere else. He says he wants to discover the Northwest passage before he turns 93."
