The Imperial Council - /r/eu4 Weekly General Help Thread: August 31 2020

Please check our previous Imperial Council thread for any questions left unanswered

Welcome to the Imperial Council of r/eu4, where your trusted and most knowledgeable advisors stand ready to help you in matters of state and conquest.

This thread is for any small questions that don't warrant their own post, or continued discussions for your next moves in your Ironman game. If you'd like to channel the wisdom and knowledge of the master tacticians of this subreddit, and more importantly not ruin your Ironman save, then you've found the right place!

Important: If you are asking about a specific situation in your game, please post screenshots of any relevant map modes (diplomatic, political, trade, etc) or interface tabs (economy, military, ideas, etc). Please also explain the situation as best you can. Alliances, army strength, ideas, tech etc. are all factors your advisors will need to know to give you the best possible answer.

    Tactician's Library:

Below is a list of resources that are helpful to players of all skill levels, meant to assist both those asking questions as well as those answering questions. This list is updated as mechanics change, including new strategies as they arise and retiring old strategies that have been left in the dust. You can help me maintain the list by sending me new guides and notifying me when old guides are no longer relevant!

If you have any useful resources not currently in the tactician's library, please share them with me and I'll add them! You can message me or mention my username in a comment by typing /u/Kloiper

Calling all imperial councillors! Many of our linked guides pre-Dharma (1.26) are missing strategy regarding mission trees. Any help in putting together updated guides is greatly appreciated! Further, if you're answering a question in this thread, chances are you've used the EU4 wiki and know how valuable a resource it can be. When you answer a question, consider checking whether the wiki has that information where you would expect to find it, and adding to the wiki if it does not. In fact, anybody can help contribute to the wiki - a good starting point is the work needed page. Before editing the wiki, please read the style guidelines for posting.

r/europe new EUIV campaign starting on Sunday, September 6th, 18-22 CEST

    New r/europe EUIV campaign

Do you think playing a Grand Strategy game spanning the time from the Renaissance to the French Revolution with your fellow Europeans could be fun? Doing diplomacy and intrigues with 80+ players? Then this is for you!

Everyone is welcome, experienced or not!

Due to time and connection concerns, players from Europe are preferred, but we do have a bunch of non-Europeans playing with us.

Here is an archive of an old campaign

    When do we play?

The campaign will happen on weekly sessions, every Sunday starting September 6th, from 18 to 22 Central European Time (CE(S)T).

    Are there rules?

Well, of course. Click here to check out the official rules of the campaign.

    The Discord Server

The organisation takes place through the r/europe Discord, link here.

Once there, go to #bot_commands and type in .assign eu4 to gain access to the EU4 channels.

That's where we'll make the relevant announcements, where you can find the other players for diplomacy and discussions and all information regarding the EU4 campaign. It is also the place where you can post your sick memes about the campaign, whether in image or high-quality gifs/video form.

    How do I join?

Due to past experiences, we will not be posting the sign-up form here, instead, you will have to join the r/europe discord mentioned above where you will find all relevant links in the #campaign-info channel. We are doing this to increase the likelihood of players actually showing up since in the past people would sign up through reddit but then never show up to the game, leaving their assigned Nation unplayed.

You may pick 5 nations, ordered by what you'd rather play, from most to less. If you didn't include a Steam and Discord name your pick will be ignored and you will not be able to participate, so make sure to hop on the Discord server. You may not pick more than 3 countries per continent. You may only pick up to 2 majors, the list of majors is included in the ruleset.

You may find some names you have never heard of before in the signup form, the reason for this is that we have decided to split up the Ming into ~30 custom nations! An overview of their ideas and positions can be found here, on the Discord we have uploaded a save file with the nations in it. These will be slightly changed in an hour or so, Privateer efficiency will be replaced and dev cost reduction buffed.

There you will also find a google spreadsheet showing the current picks, don't be discouraged if your preferred country is already picked, it is NOT first come first serve.

We also want to mention that signing up together with a friend close to each other in order to coop is strongly frowned upon as it makes for an unfair game for the other players in the viscinity. If you and your friends want to participate, do so by all means, but don't just ally your friends and ignore messages from everyone else.

    IMPORTANT:

Due to mp being bugged in current version, you have to revert to 1.28 for the campaign. How to revert in 2 simple steps:

    Step 1

    Step 2

    2 IMPORTANT 2 FURIOUS

We have created a mod for 1.28 with some balance changes and most events and missions from 1.30 ported over, it will be required to have it installed to be able to participate. It is not on the steam workshop and will most likely not end up there as some players have a workshop bug where their mods don't work. A Download link is posted in the eu4 section of the Discord in #eu4_announcements. Here is a preliminary changelist, subject to change (Japan-Korea strait already removed again). The mod is not entirely finished yet, have to iron out some things but it is playable, a final version will be uploaded in the coming days.

    Do I need any DLC?

Nope! It doesn't matter how many DLC you own, the host's DLC are able to be used by the entire server! You only need a legit copy of EU4.

I've never played EU4 multiplayer before! What do?

Well, we hope you'll enjoy your experience! This is a rather unique community in EU4 multiplayer. Besides being one of the largest groups (we usually start with ~80), we also welcome players of all skills! One important thing to keep in mind is diplomacy is a crucial aspect of our campaigns. Interacting with other players, roleplaying and such are all encouraged. The campaign doesn't just start and end Sunday, as you will likely talk with neighbours, allies and enemies throughout the weekdays. Feel free to ask more experienced players for tips and tricks. Here is a very barebones guide on what to expect, but I hope it does not scare you off, even I died several times and then they made me mod!

That is all folks. We hope for a good and fun campaign for everyone. PvP can and is encouraged to happen so there will be people losing, but in the end, we will try for a fair game that everyone had a good time with. There are no stakes, so don't escalate conflicts if you don't need to, and play fairly and remember to separate the player from the country.

Also, we are planning a CK3 campaign and looking for people for HOI4, so join the server if you're more interested in that, type .assign hoi4/CK2 for the respective role.

Looking forward to seeing you there!
