Weather and terrain is not taken seriously enough

    Posted: 10 Aug 2021 11:08 AM PDT

I like to think of eu4 as the best simulation of premodern age empires, politics and diplomacy. What I have realized is that the game differs more and more from realistic history and imo the reason is not taking weather and terrain (or population and religion) seriously enough.

Through an example, the Ottomans were easily the strongest power of the whole world at 1500, they didn't take Vienna only cause of luck, Habsburg diplomacy AND winter. Almost every Otto conquest stopped cause they returned home for the winter. As the winter attrition is not taken seriously enough, they had to boost up super-Austria to Swarzenegger level and it almost breaks any central european map. The same applies for Otto, French or German conquest to Russia. It should be a war almost impossible to win on Russian territory in the winter.

Terrain is the same. There are plenty of complaints that the colonisation is too fast and the whole world is colonized by 1700. Well maybe there should be a more severe penalty for the rainforests of the Amazon or Kongo. (And myb divide the coastline territories into smaller parts) Attrition also doesn't seem to be an issue whether its in the Alps nor in the jungle. (And again how do you exactly reinforce your troops in the middle of the Amazonas?)

These are just some suggestions, but I think it would make the game much more realistic.

Is it just me, or does anyone else prefer how EU4 looks over CKIII?

    Posted: 10 Aug 2021 11:34 AM PDT

More or less title. Perhaps I'm just a wierdo, but I've been having an extremely difficult time getting into CKIII, mostly because I dislike the more "modern" looking graphics. Wonder if anyone else agrees.
