    I'm a whining cry-baby. You've been warned!

    Posted: 24 May 2021 11:19 PM PDT

Sometimes this game just pisses me right off.

I'm playing as Mulhouse when Lorraine gets excommunicated. Not expecting much, I look at daddy Province's allies only to find that none of them would join a defensive war, not even France (-45!) who's already busy with another war. So I jump on it. I'm big enough to handle Lorraine and Province by myself but I call in The Palatinate and Trier just to seal the deal. Metz goes down quickly and I'm up to 49% on the fort on Lorraine when France joins the war -- even though they're still losing the other war! Okay, don't panic. I'm at 49% on the fort, once it goes down I'll be able to peace out. Miss the first roll at 49%. Disease outbreak on the 2nd roll at 49%. I'm one day away from my 3rd shot at 49% when Province jumps on me. Still cool, I outnumber him by a couple of units and soon he's down to the point where his morale is no longer visible on the bar. Great, one more day to beat him, then another day to finish the siege, then I can peace out. Roll a 0. Next day, roll a 0. Next day, roll a 0. Next day, France arrives with a 45 stack and one of his godlike generals.

Rage quit. Time to play some minecraft.

Any hope for EU4 post Leviathan?

As much I would like to think that the latest DLC and patch are steps in the right direction and has good QoL improvements, I find it difficult to be optimistic for the future of EU4.

The trend of new ''features'' is ''add a button'' and aren't interesting or some cases even good by design. I can't even imagine sometimes how some of those ideas even got a green light. Why was it necessary to change how AI handles governing capacity? Why fix something that isn't broken, only to brake it completely? In my recent game Muscovy annexed Novgorod and integrated Perm, only to release the WHOLE of Novgorod as a vassal with 100% LD. Never before that was ever an issue in this game.

Pillage capital and centralise development are good ideas in theory, but not in practice. 50 dev ANY capital province in the first 50 years of the game? Yeah why not. 50 dev used to be late game thing but now it's just few clicks of the button away. You're playing a 3 dev opm and in 50 years your capital has more dev than Paris or Beijing, that's totally fine and doesn't break an immersion of the game. Every country in the game is a horde now apparently.

Players complained that the colonisation in the game is too fast and if you are playing 2nd or 3rd wave coloniser then there would be very little land left to colonise. PDX adds more tribes/tags in colonisable provinces and gives an extra colonist for the colonial nations. Logical response there. Plus most of the new tags added in the last 3 patches are getting increasingly OP ideas. CCR, admin efficiency, warscore reduction are default new tag starting ideas/traditions now.

Given how much improvement is happening in HOI4, especially with naval and incoming tank designs, I wonder why can't EU4 have more depth and customization. Maybe early game I want half of my troops to be archer and the rest pikemen? How would that affect armies effectiveness in combat?

There seems to be a huge disconnect between game designers and the players. Players getting frustrated with feature bloating and lack of bug fixes that were in the game for years. Devs are just ignoring that and just doing their own thing, queue a new shiny DLC. Remember when Jonah said that they were not planning fixing bugs until ALL of the DLC were out and there was literally nothing else for them to do. Just let that sink in for a moment. All of that had change because of how bad last DLC release was and if it wasn't that then it wouldn't be addressed for a very long while.

TLDR: Devs have no long term vision for EU4 or the ability to delivery any vision given track record of the last 3 patches. Most likely the game is just going to get worse over time until it finally gets shelved to make room for EU5

Poor Manila, when I went to colonize the Philippines, the country who owned Manila had rebels but they were only 1k and didn’t replenish and since they were a 1 province minor they couldn’t rebuild. So when I declared war and finished the siege, it showed how long it was under siege. (71yrs)
