2021 Tips and Tricks (before Leviathan comes out)

    Posted: 23 Apr 2021 11:36 AM PDT

Hello reddit, been quite a while since I last saw a good Tips and Tricks list, so here I invite everyone from 5k+ hours Pro players to any beginner to come and leave more or lesser knows tips about Eu4!

    I will start:

    - Holding CTRL down while selecting your troops will select navies rather than armies, might sound unimportant but I only found that after 2 years of gameplay.

-Get 'em loans. Beginners seems very very cautions towards loans and while yes, it's better to not have them, too many people seem to prefer to stop a war rather than taking few loans.

-Don't be afraid to give monopolies. Estate monopolies is a privilege almost everyone ignores or don't want to get. (example) Early game Muscovy produce very little income from textiles hence is a good idea to give the monopoly on textiles so you gain mercantilism and some quick money, although it doesn't seems a big deal, it does stack up and you can get to around 20-30 mercantilism before 1550 if used correctly.

Only 3 from me this time, let's see what you have to teach us! :D

    What about ecumenical councils?

    Posted: 23 Apr 2021 11:43 AM PDT

I feel what would be really cool would be if the game introduced something like the attempt to hold an ecumenical council, whether between Eastern Orthodox and Oriental Orthodox, Catholics and Eastern Orthodox, or Catholics and Oriental Orthodox. Heck, what if the rare event occurs and the Pope goes full conciliatory, and makes the protestants happy? What if an attempt at reconciling certain branches of protestants was reached?

Historically such attempts fizzled out, or took place because of the weakness of Byzantium hoping for help from the west and was not recognized by later Orthodox, or resulted in only certain Orthodox churches in agreeing to retain their traditions but become part of the Catholic church (this happened in the Commonwealth and Hungary iirc), but what if there were a strong Orthodox or Catholic ruler who sought reconciliation?

What if, say, the Byzantine emperor or a Coptic power in Africa or Armenia was resurgent, or the Czar of Russia sought closeness with the west through religious dialogue?

I imagine actually reuniting the churches would be very hard and rare to occur, but other things could be reached. Maybe if the council goes well, but isn't conclusive, it still results in a positive relations boost or a bonus to heretic acceptance. Perhaps such feelings would be lost if one of the signers went around converting provinces of the other religion.

Of course if anyone involved at paradox were to read this it would undoubtedly make their head spin at what they would have to program to make such changes possible, but idk, just brainstorming here.
