    Colonization needs a rework

The way colonies and colonization work in eu4 is not that historically accurate and not for playability reasons; I think it needs a rework.

For one, all colonies are republics with elections which is very inaccurate historically speaking. Spain's colonies were run by viceroys, officials selected by royal appointment, not any kind of elections; France's had intendants who were selected from the nobility. I think a good solution for this one would be to let the colonizing country choose between different types of colonial governments for their colony, like maybe a royal colony where you select their ruler, a dictatorship-type colonial government, a regular republic like the ones in eu4 now, etc. There's a lot Paradox could do with this that would not only make the game more historically accurate, but a lot more interesting as well.

I also think the mechanic that if you annex a country, you take control of their colonies too isn't a great one. Historically speaking, when Napoleon invaded Portugal, Portugal didn't just say "oh by the way, have our colonies too," the government fled to Brazil and the rest of the empire was run from there. In my opinion, a similar mechanic should exist in eu4. A country getting annexed should be able to choose to assume direct control over one of their colonies and live there. Maybe it has some bad penalties too, like separatist sentiment in all the former colony's provinces or something.

This is just a few of my ideas, so let me know what you think!
