Suggestion for Hindu holy sites and deity system Posted: 22 Apr 2020 10:52 AM PDT So I'm into Indian history. I really like the idea of being able to choose your deity and getting different bonuses, because different Hindu empires and kingdoms had different ones that they patronized and frequently even demolished rivals' temples to other deities. But I noticed that Varanasi is considered "the Hindu holy city". This is technically true but a bit weird, because Hinduism has tons of holy sites spread throughout India that witness giant pilgrimages, and what's more, many of them are holy only or primarily in relation to a certain god. So here's what I propose: the bonuses from your deity start off weaker and as you conquer more and more provinces with sites holy for your deity, they start to add up. Kinda similar to Russia and Orthodox where you gain power over time. There are also a few cities that are holy for all deities and would give other bonuses as well, like missionaries or just straight cash from pilgrimages. Perhaps building a temple in a holy province gives you an extra bonus or extra prestige. There could be some new missions too. Take a look here for what a map would look like: https://imgur.com/a/EstwDMb (I even threw together some Islamic sites, but I don't think they could be implemented in the same fashion. Perhaps they'd just give a bit of a cash bonus if they're there at all). A few provinces here and there (like Velanadu or some of the Ganesha sites) will have multiple holy sites, so they would count twice or even thrice. Vijayanagar should lose its status if it gets conquered by the Muslim sultanates. One thing I changed: instead of Ganga, who isn't really a major deity at all, I put Kartikeya, the god of war who is widely worshipped in Tamil Nadu. I think it's pretty self-explanatory what his appeal would be. Also notice that I have a few odd sites off in Southeast Asia and one in Tibet. So Shiva, Vishnu and Shakti would be the main solid options with plenty of sites throughout India. Surya, Ganesha and Kartikeya would be a bit more niche, for playing tall in particular areas or for a challenge, because they have a lot fewer sites and are concentrated in one or two areas. So the bonuses would be a lot greater per site. In addition, I would add an option to patronize Smartism, which worships all deities equally instead of focusing on one. So, if you choose to be Smarta, you get bonuses from all sites, but they'd be way reduced. In addition, around 1700, the new tradition of Magha Mela (modern Kumbh Mela) starts showing up. This is a festival that rotates between Nasik, Lower Doab (Prayag), Ujjain and Upper Doab (Haridwar) every 12 years, that gives the province owner a cool income bonus for a month, regardless of their religion. What do y'all think? I think this could really give India and the Hindu religion some extra roleplaying flavor and a new fun dimension to playing the region, without introducing any super complex mechanics that are hard to grasp or implement. On the other hand, I'm not exactly an expert player so this could seem super off-balanced and I'd have no idea. [link] [comments] | ||
