    The charter company mechanic is destroying the AI

    The AI simply cannot handle it. I have managed to mod the AI to a reasonable level of competence...until most of Europe gets the colonial range to charter companies from Africa.

    Then all hell breaks loose.

    The AI immediately goes berserk, chartering companies, invading African minors and dumping all their gold into trade company investments. They simply stop caring about their home regions.

    If France fails to unite France before tech advances too far, it will never be able to do so without player intervention, because it will just sit there for the rest of the game invading Africa. It doesnt care if there is an OPM Burgundy next door that it has a permanent claim on.

    I had just finished a war with Austria which is why they were 9366 in debt. They have access to level 8 forts, but wont upgrade their level 6 forts to level 8. Instead, they decide to spend most of their remaining gold on chartering Benin. (The screenshot was taken right before they did it). AI personality was balanced, and on that note, I do not see any difference with AI personalties at all for chartering companies, even militarists will go nuts chartering companies.

    It is extremely frustrating, as tech advances and the AI gets more colonial range, they simply go braindead and will ignore Europe to charter companies and invade Africa.

    I tried to put in restrictions to stop the AI from doing it, but it looks like the charter company action is hardcoded and cannot be modified at all.

    Ever noticed how GBR, Spain, Portugal and France quickly stop caring about Europe? This is why. They just drop everything to go invade Africa. Ever noticed why those countries tend to have tons of empty building slots in their home provinces? Its because they are dumping all their gold into trade companies. Just compare their provinces to a land locked country in the HRE or something, its a huge difference.

    Another variant of this problem is Russia. Because Russia can easily reach Asia using the Siberian frontier mechanic, they get access to lots of weak Asian countries.

    When the Russian AI gets access to those weak Asian countries, they completely ignore Europe and spend the rest of the game invading them.
