New Ottoman Tree! Flavor Universalis XI: Dev Diary 4/12/2021

Hey friends welcome to another week and another dev diary for the upcoming Ottoman update for Flavor Universalis. If you missed last week's dev diary, click here. If it's within your means drop by the Steam Page of the mod and leave a like by clicking here and join our wonderful Discord Community here.

Now that's out of the way, let's get the show on the road!

    3 new rows revealed!

As we move on, I will reveal segments of the tree, a tradition started with last week's dev diary! In this segment we will yet again discuss a blend of conquest and impressive flavor.

The conquest of Cyprus proved quite vital for the Sultanate, as the island's governor and military heads were quite well-versed in the maritime and naval affairs. Should you choose to spare them, you will be rewarded accordingly!

The conquest of Cyprus will potentially provide you with a trusted subject to boost your naval might!

Moving on, constructing the Topkapi Palace to at least tier 2, historically known as the place of power, diplomacy and influence of the mighty Sultan will grant you a hefty amount of power projection as well as bolster your diplomatic prowess!

You can check the project's bonuses in last week's DD!

The development of the capital in Konstantiniyye is a pivotal part of the Ottoman history. It's known that Mehmet II ordered families from across the realm to move in and he commenced numerous construction projects to bring the prestige of the capital back to its once-great height :)

He also ordered the Jews that were evicted / persecuted to return and you will have the chance to do so too!

This choice will grant the Dhimmi 5% Influence and Loyalty equilibrium as well as have an impact in future mission rewards and requirements!

The so-called 'Classic Era' of the Empire , or Klasic Cag, began after the conquest of Constantinople and brought tremendous expansion and immeasurable wealth to the Empire

This is a very important mission that will open up many pathways for expansion and development!

The secret to a smooth government is a good local head of state!

New reforms are going to be a focus of this update for the Ottomans!

This modifier will fluctuate with each monarch according to their ability, and will be challenged / abolished in future events, especially during the mid/late stage of the game!

A capital the likes of Konstantiniyye needs maritime wealth! This mission requires its trade development and the upgrade of the Bosphorus Toll Great Project as shown in the previous Dev Diary!

Conquest of Jerusalem will yield two very interesting choices for its reward!

    A New Tier 4 reform!

Increased Tolerance of Heathens Capacity +1 it's on the house!

The Court System of the Ottomans would focus on a lot of aspects of governing. Some local courts would be assigned to handle mercantile disputes while others focused on dhimmi disputes and heathen law

This reward is dynamic, based on the measure of our nation's piety (-100 to +100)! This is the Legalism reward version.

That is all for today, thank you very much for taking the time to read through my work and your non-stop support is what keeps me going <3

    Teaser for next week:

I have a better idea... Hmmm

    Anyway, cheers!

Am I the only one that plays EU4 by destroying nations and not creating nations?

    Posted: 04 Dec 2021 09:58 AM PST

After 1500+ hours, and every mod, I've begun to play the game differently. Instead of building a nation. I find an empire and act as if the rulers crazy. Then I move on to another nation while watching the complete implosion of my previous one.

I have no idea why it's so fun, but it is. Say goodbye to centuries long super powers, hello chaos!

Shouldn’t England should have better land combat modifiers?

    Posted: 04 Dec 2021 11:20 AM PST

After really digging into some well-researched history podcasts about the 100 years war between England and France, it strikes me as odd that France is so militarily superior to England in EU4 (at least in the early game). France, and even Castille, had adopted a "no-pitched battles" strategy against the English because they had been thrashed so many times even in lopsided engagements where they had the numerical superiority and were fighting on their own turf. They fought a war of attrition against England because they didn't want to risk a decisive engagement.

Obviously EU4 starts at the tail end of this conflict, but the modifiers seem to be ahistorical to a degree (much in the same way that Prussia's OP military doesn't really make much sense). I mean, Agincourt is a scant 25 years before the start of the game - TLDR, France shouldn't be so dominant in land battles early game and/or England should have better land combat modifiers. Agree?

How do you manage colonizing india?

    Posted: 03 Dec 2021 10:09 PM PST

I'm halfway into a colonization-heavy british campaign and i just took my first chunk of india via mission tree claims. This is taking up a lot of my governing capacity, and i can't afford to constantly core 30-70 cost provinces. Is there a way to release or form a colonial nation in india, so i can feed them provinces and not have to take direct penalties?
