New Ottoman Mission Tree: Flavor Universalis XI Dev Diary 27/11/21

New Ottoman Mission Tree: Flavor Universalis XI Dev Diary 27/11/21

    Hey everyone!

I can't believe it's already been a week since announcing the next update for Flavor Universalis. Time flies when you are having fun.
I want to take a minute to thank you all for the support and interest you take in my work.

Now that's out of the way, let's get into the details of the Ottoman tree. Development is well underway, however, I ask for patience because this is not only (probably) the biggest tree ever to be added in the EU IV workshop, counting well over 12.000 lines of code cumulatively but also 100++ missions.

For that purpose (and because I have to do research, design and coding myself) it may take a while. Ideally, however, this tree will see the light of day in 2021.

So what's cool with the new tree ? Let's see a few pictures.

So right off the bat you will be greeted by 2 new Events and this is one of them

Set the stage: The Ottomans have just won a clear and supreme victory over the combined forces of the (now dead) Polish King, throwing Poland and Hungary into disarray (it's hard to govern when you are dead). The way of conquest now lays open for the Sultan as you make preparations to take Constantinople and solidify your territories in the Balkans. The event itself, as of the time of writing this, has no bonus whatsoever and its only use is to tell the tale, sort of a "Previously on Europa Universalis IV!" event, it sets the stage

The second event, will discuss the remaining few Anatolian tribes

There is historical precedent to give (at the very least) territorial cores to the Ottomans in these areas, since much of these lands were integrated into the Empire without much struggle, given the fact that the Ottomans were the leading "tribe". Yes, Osman actually started his gang as a tribe, it's just that his was more successful and eventually became THE Tribe. (Also I miss the cores they had pre-1.23)

    A nice small sneak-peek

So, the tree will have about 5 "Beginnings" and this one of them. This particular beginning, given the fact that it's the first thing you will see, is not overly heavy with conquest, to avoid tiring your eyes with endless "conquer this, beat that etc" missions. Thus, a seamless and expertly-made blend of both conquest (left), flavor (centre), navy (right) to start you off.

This missions aims at consolidating the first few tribes and grants a simple reward. Anatolia is the playground and you are the biggest kid in the block!

The usual forcelimit (with a twist!) mission, this reward is mostly aimed at giving you a bone for what the Ottomans did on Nov 10th 1444, a day before the game started

It is said that Sultan Mehmed II raised an immense fleet to besiege the capital of the Byzantines. A nice interesting bonus to start you off, an entrée before the main course!

The reward for storming the Grandmaster's Palace. Maaan, I hate the Knights' raids. BEGONE!

Uniting the Tribes of Anatolia will result in more warriors flocking to your banners as well as the slow integration of the region into your administration

Establishing Konstantiniyye as the capital in the City of the World's Desire mission, will yield a very flavorful bonus (cheeky Advisors Expanded bonus teased)

And of course, commerce! Coin! Maritime Commerce will yield a really nice bonus for those who wish to invest in it!

Before we end the Dev Diary, 2 more nice sneak peeks because I am having such a wonderful day today!

The Topkapi Palace, residing in Konstantiniyye, with interesting bonuses!

The Bosphorus Toll is now a great project, this way I utilize it in the missions and give it a bit more depth, makes you feel more invested putting money into its development!

Ok ok 1 more tease! The tree will be loaded with 2 new Estates (yes, 2!) Here are the privileges for one of them (icons are a WIP because I only have 2 hands :3)

    And they don't come cheap!

This one did not fit the other picture so had to add separately, juicy nonetheless!

    Numbers are subject to change!

That is all for today, it was quite entertaining! If you wish to see more feel free to join our Discord Community and subscribe to the mod in the Steam Workshop!

Take care and stay safe <3

How do you deal with eu4 addiction?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 04:05 AM PST

I am not able to control myself when I start new EU4 campaign. For example, for the last 3 days I played total 35 hours and 5 hours today :). As you can guess, a lot of deadlines are piled up now because of this.. So, until finishing the campaign, this game ruins my 1 week every time.. What do you suggest?

Considering the Steam Autumn sale currently going on. How is Eu4 compared to Ck2 if you have all DLC for it?

Three day sieges. The Animation to move in the province isn't even finished before the siege

R5: Stacked some nice modifiers on the Ottomans to get 3 day sieges.

    • Engineer Corps (Offensive Idea 4) 20%
    • My Word is My Bond (Divine/Espionage Policy) 20%
    • Modern Siege Weapons (Innovative/Offensive Policy) 10%
    • Army Professionalism + Tradition is 11.3+2.4%

    Add those together for 63.7%

Then a Siege General for 15%, Tech 21 vs 20 for another 6.2%, and a 85.20 Spy network for another 17%. That all adds up to 101.9%

If it wasn't for their pesky 10.3% defensiveness, the defenders would be opening the door for me.
