    Excommunication cancels elections and makes you immortal?

    Hello there, everyone. Recently I made a post asking for advice with a religious disaster. I managed to avoid that and then conquered Genova. However, as they were and are the Papal controller, they excommunicated my ruler. The government reforms I have as Venice make me have Doge elections every four years, but ever since Doge Giuseppe Barilla was excommunicated there have been no elections. He has been in power from 1515 to 1536 and it keeps going. He is 71 years old. Is he eventually going to die and it'll be fixed? It says the next elections are at a certain date, but then that date arrives and they don't happen. It's just Giuseppe again. Do I have to have my excommunication lifted for him to finally die or be replaced? It seems like a strange bug to me but I was hoping to find an explanation here. Thanks in advance.

    Hey everyone :)

    In today's Dev Diary we will take a brief glance over the new Lower Saxon Generic Missions, but before that, I am happy to announce that, in anticipation for the new Africa-themed DD coming for eu4, we have decided to release the previously-teased Songhai Mission Tree which you can find more details about here.

    Lower Saxony

    Lower saxony, while not as history-rich as other areas, still has many interesting facts upon which missions can be built around. Unfortunately, the need to keep them generic has limited the tree somewhat. While the current mission tree does not leave any space for nation-specific missions, I would like to introduce such at a later date. Here's a few screenshots:
