Changing the Iberian Wedding to be more dynamic Posted: 23 Jun 2021 07:09 AM PDT Everyone is familiar with the Iberian Wedding. It's what turns Castile into the western hegemon for about a century, bla bla bla. What most people don't know is that this union only came to rule Castile after a bloody civil war, known in the game as the Castilian Civil War. This war was fought by Isabella and her husband Ferdinand of Aragon, and her niece Joanna, wife of the King of Portugal. Isabella and her supporters won the war and thus united Castile with Aragon, but had Joanna won, it would have likely united Castile with Portugal instead. This could be the dynamic part. It's usually quite easy to avoid the Castilian Civil War disaster, but let's make that a bad idea instead. Right now, when the Castilian Civil War breaks out, you get to pick a side. This is one of the most meaningless decisions in the game. You should pretty much always pick Portugal because Aragon will just rival you no matter what. You might already guess what I'm proposing be changed. Have the winner of the civil war become the target of the Iberian Wedding. If you pick Portugal and win, the Iberian Wedding is no longer between Castile and Aragon, but between Castile and Portugal. Further: Make whichever side you choose form an alliance with you. It would incentivize picking Aragon, since an alliance with Aragon is always welcome (and Portugal is easier to invade). If the CCW doesn't fire, a different event fires. Once EITHER Aragon or Portugal is a potential target for the Iberian Wedding (i.e. different ruler genders, or one of them has a regency), the Iberian Wedding event fires. But this time, both Portugal and Aragon get the option of invading you with a PU CB. I'll be honest I haven't quite figured this part out yet, but I wanted to make it worse than firing the CCW early. Ideas welcome [link] [comments] | ||
