Welcome to the Imperial Council of r/eu4, where your trusted and most knowledgeable advisors stand ready to help you in matters of state and conquest.

This thread is for any small questions that don't warrant their own post, or continued discussions for your next moves in your Ironman game. If you'd like to channel the wisdom and knowledge of the master tacticians of this subreddit, and more importantly not ruin your Ironman save, then you've found the right place!

Important: If you are asking about a specific situation in your game, please post screenshots of any relevant map modes (diplomatic, political, trade, etc) or interface tabs (economy, military, ideas, etc). Please also explain the situation as best you can. Alliances, army strength, ideas, tech etc. are all factors your advisors will need to know to give you the best possible answer.

Calling all imperial councillors! Many of our linked guides pre-Dharma (1.26) are missing strategy regarding mission trees. Any help in putting together updated guides is greatly appreciated! Further, if you're answering a question in this thread, chances are you've used the EU4 wiki and know how valuable a resource it can be. When you answer a question, consider checking whether the wiki has that information where you would expect to find it, and adding to the wiki if it does not. In fact, anybody can help contribute to the wiki - a good starting point is the work needed page. Before editing the wiki, please read the style guidelines for posting.

Hey everyone, on of the Switzerland-players from Grandest Virtual Party here, my take on the war to end all wars.

    Posted: 23 Nov 2020 01:19 PM PST

Okey, so i just watched the paradox-stream covering the last wars, the one between just us against Prussia and Hannover, and ofc the big final war, the war to end all wars. Just wanted you guys to have som insight on our perspective during that final war.

Skanderbeg of the game and last war: https://skanderbeg.pm/browse.php?view=battles&id=c1c448&war=0

**First of, the forgotten front of the war**
The streamers put a lot of focus on the eastern front in eastern Prussia, and while that was without any doubt the biggest front where the bloodiest battles where fought, the also put some focus on the Indian front, the Italian front, our pushes into the low counties and the small but not insignificant front in Britain. But they never seemed to ever have the camera in the iberian region, which was one hell of a battlefield, the forgotten front. Jerusalem, andalusia and brittany combiend lost almost 1,7 million men, basicly exclusively on that front. That is 17% of all the losses on thier side. It was mentiond sometimes that we, the swiss, were fighting on three different fronts, but at times it was more like four. When Iberia was lost, we resorted to holding the pyrenees and that happened at the same time as we lost our landconnection to the Pope, so that front was consolidated to one army holding both fronts, but we still took many battles in southern France.

**What we are most proud of**
This: https://imgur.com/gallery/UHE9hKA . We stackwiped almost 1.16 million troops! While managing multiple fronts.

    **Our biggest mistakes**
By far the biggest mistake we made was thinging we could cripple the dutch economy by siegeing the lowlands enough for their alliance to run out of money. We put so much focus on it when we could have put our military to much better use. We underestimated the amount of money the still generated and them running out of money was never an issue for them, The Netherlands didn't even take a loan.
Another mistake was not linking up with the Russians sooner, as our artillary was very strong and could have helped the battles on the eastern front from the start, one stack would have been enough.

**What we should have been doing instead**
As mentioned, we should have had at least on art-stack with the russians as we had taken the" french musketeers" age bonus (20% land fire dmg) before switching back to Switzerland, and yes, it stays even if you tag-switch. More importantly, what we should have done from day one of the war was to really crush Milan from the start together with the Pope and Serbia and stabhit them as soon as possible. That would have decreased the enemy teams fighting power substantionally and we could have gotten much more help from the Pope, aswell as one less front to maintain. He was already down his two best mountain forts even before the war began.

    **The other players war effort**
All players played well, and everyone was extremly nice and fun to play with, really top notch people. The Russian juggernaut went toe to toe with the unrelenting Prussians which allowed us to move around where it was needed, and i was so impressed by both of them, flanking and counterflanking nonstop. Serbia played well but i did not realise how beaten up his country was and was supprised that he only could supply the same amount of troops as Brittany, but that was my miscalculation, not something he did wrong. Jerusalem and Andalusia were in a though spot, there was no chance for them to push into France, so they did what they could, but nothing more. As for the Asian players, i did not experiance that front what so ever, so it is hard for me to have an oppinion except from Deccan, Jesus fighting in Europe when your home is in Asia is not easy, so really wp. Anyway, once again, everyone involved was really nice.

    **Things the casters got wrong**
They kept saying that it could have gone differently if the Dutch gathered their forces and helped out in Europe, but that is not the case. First of all, they did, at the start of the war, they died many 100k in Europe, but they hadn't picked any mil-ideas, they went full eco. When they took fights, all that happened was that they gave us free warscore and since the wargoal was to win battles, that was the worst thing they could do. They played well with what they had, and realised that they had to take a support role, supporting with their strong navy, dealing with the isolated irish, getting money and making landings on undefended lands. Pulling out their troops from the main battles was the right call.
Russia supported us with a whole lot of money, but it was Kilwa that saved the war by paying off my loans. We were so close to bankrupcy, so Kilwa took all the loans they could and payed off ours. That was how we made a comeback. Other then that, the casters really did an amazing job showcasing the war, and it is hard to know these things since no one told them.

Anyway, that's it. A very long post, but if you have any further questions feel free to ask. And to all the players in the game, i really have to thank you for an amazing experience and i hope to face you on the battlefield once again!
