Please check our previous Imperial Council thread for any questions left unanswered

Welcome to the Imperial Council of r/eu4, where your trusted and most knowledgeable advisors stand ready to help you in matters of state and conquest.

This thread is for any small questions that don't warrant their own post, or continued discussions for your next moves in your Ironman game. If you'd like to channel the wisdom and knowledge of the master tacticians of this subreddit, and more importantly not ruin your Ironman save, then you've found the right place!

Important: If you are asking about a specific situation in your game, please post screenshots of any relevant map modes (diplomatic, political, trade, etc) or interface tabs (economy, military, ideas, etc). Please also explain the situation as best you can. Alliances, army strength, ideas, tech etc. are all factors your advisors will need to know to give you the best possible answer.

    Tactician's Library:

This list is updated as mechanics change, including new strategies as they arise and retiring old strategies that have been left in the dust. You can help me maintain the list by sending me new guides and notifying me when old guides are no longer relevant!

Calling all imperial councillors! Many of our linked guides pre-Dharma (1.26) are missing strategy regarding mission trees. Any help in putting together updated guides is greatly appreciated! Further, if you're answering a question in this thread, chances are you've used the EU4 wiki and know how valuable a resource it can be. When you answer a question, consider checking whether the wiki has that information where you would expect to find it, and adding to the wiki if it does not. In fact, anybody can help contribute to the wiki - a good starting point is the work needed page. Before editing the wiki, please read the style guidelines for posting.

When uniting Islam, the name shouldn't be "The Caliphate." It should be the "*your dynasty* Caliphate" and fix the dynasty.

Historically, Caliphates were dynastic institutions, with the Rashiduns, Umayyads, and Abbasids all claiming the title. I think that using the word "The" on the map looks a little clumsy.

Trying to form Rum as Karaman, and Ottomans have Muscovy as an ally and they are even receiving gifts from fucking Mamluks. By this rate I won't be surprised if they get Austria as an ally, just to prevent me from achieving this.

Will there be another Patch/Hotfix to fix all the other things in 1.30 that are still broken?

    Posted: 22 Jun 2020 07:28 AM PDT

There are still a ton of glaring issues in the game at the moment, and I haven't heard anything from Pdx about fixing them. Just a few examples that I know of that are still major issues include crippling performance issues for a lot of folks, way-too powerful Mamluks who crush Ottos half the time, Reform Desire ticking up too fast because of all the new nations, and of course, the AI taking on massive debt and going into bankruptcy very often, and thus being perpetually unable to answer call-to-arms. EU4 is at last imo getting really really good, but this patch is nowhere near done yet.

Burgundian inheritance (AI) chances explained (calculator included)

    Posted: 22 Jun 2020 07:06 AM PDT

So I've been munching into the data for the Burgundian inheritance, and finally made some sense about what decisions the AI is likely to make out of the four they have (Stand alone, PU under Emperor, PU under France and PU under an ally with whom they have a RM). I will leave a few pointers here, and a link to an Excel where you can change the modifiers from a list to calculate the exact chance for each option in YOUR game. This is the link:

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1GW4WY8VO-fftBCuBlkxPiuNrXWhqHwqYFFG1YYZwwBw/edit?usp=sharing

To choose stand alone --> AI Burgundy in unlikely to choose this, but likelier if France and Emperor are weaker than it (twice as good if BOTH of them are), also if it hates France and the Emperor (twice as good if it hates BOTH of them), and if it rivals and is rivaled by France and the Emperor (each points for rivaling, and being rivaled by each of them, total of 4 extra modifiers). The biggest modifier by far is if Burgundy is a great power.

To choose the Emperor--> AI Burgundy is the likeliest to choose this option, generally speaking, and almost guaranteed if it has joined the HRE. Extra points if it is allied or RM'ed to the Emperor, or likes them (+100 relations). Being rivals or rivaled by the Emperor only reduces the chance by half, so still pretty likely to happen.

To choose France --> This is a rather unlikely choice, though it can happen. Likelier to happen if Burgundy likes France (+100 relations) and doesn't care about the Emperor (0 or below relation with him). Also likelier if Burgundy is rivaled or rivals the Emperor. If Burgundy rivals or is rivaled by France, the chance of this happening drops to only 10%, so it's pretty much impossible for AI to choose France in that case.

To choose an ally--> There are two conditions that MUST be met: first, the ally must be the strongest ally Burgundy has, no other allies will be considered. Second, they must have a RM with Burgundy, otherwise they won't be considered. BOTH conditions will be met, so if, say, Burgundy's strongest ally doesn't have a RM with them, the game will NOT jump to the next strongest ally with a RM, there will simply be a 0% chance for this option. AI is likelier to choose this option if Burgundy doesn't care about France and Austria (0 or below relation) and rivals them (NOT if they rival Burgundy). Double points for having both Emperor and France on these conditions.
