Security Flaw in Europa Universalis IV

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 03:23 AM PST

    All,

It has recently been discovered that a security flaw exists in the current version of Hearts of Iron IV, Europa Universalis IV, Crusader Kings II and Victoria II. The flaw allows mods to run arbitrary code on your machine, allowing the mod to do almost anything: including, but not limited to, installing a proper virus on your machine.

Whilst this flaw has been confirmed in Hearts of Iron IV, Europa Universalis IV, Crusader Kings II, and Victoria II, it is possible it may be present in any/all other Paradox games.

The flaw requires malicious intent on behalf of mod uploaders, so I highly recommend you do not run any Paradox game with any mod you do not absolutely trust. The flaw can be exploited either through a new workshop upload, or an update to existing mods.

Paradox have been made aware of the flaw, and are looking into this. A patch will presumably be rolled out as soon as possible. I've deliberately not given the specifics of the flaw in this post to prevent any spread, and so I would encourage you to do the same in the comments.

EDIT: I can confirm the flaw also affects Victoria II alongside HOI4, EU4 and CK2

What have you done to me?

Bought this game for $1 on Humble Bundle two (or was it three?) days ago. Had no idea what to expect and I've never played a grand strategy game before. I. Can't. Stop. I woke up at 3am this morning to piss and of course I ended up turning on my computer to play.

I've been following along with a YouTube Let's Play as Castile to learn how to play. Im currently at 1490 and took care of Portugal and Northern Afica. I'm in a union with Aragon and Naples and allied with France. I just found the New World and looking for a place to colonize in South America so I can make that reach to the Bahamas. After that I'm hoping to figure out how to turn Aragon and Castile into Spain. And after that I dunno. War with England or more exploring around South America? Lol. Biggest problem so far is that isn't enough hours in the day. Great game and I'm glad I checked it out. I'm hooked.

Who are some real 6/6/6 rulers in our history?

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 10:55 AM PST

I was doing some historical reading, and began thinking about some of the historical leaders that we consider to be "The Greats". Then I realized that I would love to know who this sub considers to be actual 6/6/6 rulers of our non-alternative history.

    Some key things to remember:

    1. 6/6/6 rulers are exceptionally rare. Somebody who might be a highly revered ruler or have big chapters in our history books won't necessarily be a 6/6/6 ruler.

    2. A ruler with a 6 in Administration will have achieved economic success, national stability, and overall bureaucratic efficiency during their tenure.

    3. A ruler with a 6 in Diplomacy will have successfully and efficiently expanded their borders, their alliances, and the global reputation of their nation.

    4. A ruler with a 6 in Military will have expanded the military technology/ability, not been bogged down by the costs of war, and achieved great offensive/defensive feats of strength.

So who are some real 6/6/6 rulers of our history and why?
