Missions Expanded Dev Diary 27.10.2019 The Decadent Empire - Timurid Prince Mission Tree and Flavor

Hey Folks! I'm u/Stiopa866, the Lead Developer of Missions Expanded, and I am thrilled to lend my voice over to LordVarangian, who will talk about his amazing work on the Timurid Prince Flavor! Without further ado, let's get right into it, because there is a lot to talk about!

    The Timurid Princes

Greetings everyone. This is LordVarangian once again, this time bringing you the heirs of the Timurid Empire, the flavour I've prepared for the starting Timurid vassals. Big thanks to Elefante for helping me with the localisation.

First of all, let's look at the generic tree of those princes:

    https://i.redd.it/oif0wtj8u2v31.png

To begin with, the tree is not that large, since it would be hard to handle conquest missions for such a fluid region if the trees weren't done separately. However I've more focused on what those nations have achieved, and what they could have achieved. An example of that is the power struggle mission, which unlocks Timurid legitimacy, a 'currency' that can be either saved to form the Timurids earlier, or can be spent to gain short term bonuses, allowing you to conquer the required land.

    https://i.redd.it/v218u3jmu2v31.png

Since the starting rulers of almost all the Timurid vassals were renowned administrators, strategists, or even diplomats, I've decided to give them special starting events, giving them a bonus to represent their might, 2 of these examples being Transoxiana and Khorasan:

    The Fall of Herat

Another thing I've tackled previously was the Fall of Herat, which I've described as The Burgundian Inheritance of Persia. It can only start if a Timurid prince occupies Herat...

    https://i.redd.it/7rxynb3dv2v31.png

... and if they manage to keep it under occupation for one year, the Timurid Empire will meet its fate at last (those rules do not apply if Timurids are a player)

    Aftermath of this event is:

    The Game of Thrones

Now, after the Fall of Herat the real journey begins. Ulugh Beg, ruler of Transoxiana, can decide to press his claim on the Timurid throne, as he is the most legitimate heir out of all. He can also instead try to rein in with terror before making such bold claims.

    https://i.redd.it/ih0iwgm7w2v31.png

With skilled followers such as Abu Sa'id Mirza, he will remain unchallenged, unless the prince of Khorasan decides to take action:

    https://i.redd.it/znee23gdw2v31.png

The reasoning behind such a strong modifier lies behind the urge to to represent the lighting warfare Babur led against Ulugh Beg historically, with his conquests ranging from the far edges of Ajam to the mountains of Afghanistan.

As I've mentioned before, Abu Sa'id Mirza serves on Ulugh Beg's side, but he is not to be trusted as well. Early onto the campaign, Ulugh gets an event to accept him into his court (like he did historically), or turn him away, effectively ending any of his attempts to elevate himself in the Empire.

    https://i.redd.it/cyj5b24ex2v31.png

Abu Sa'id is nobody to turn away, as if he is accepted into the court, he would serve for a discount, and he could become one of your greatest generals:

    https://i.redd.it/fpfgvtoex2v31.png

Now, with him gaining so much power from Ulugh Beg, you'd expect him to have his own cunning plans, and you'd be correct in that matter. A Transoxiana player will have 2 ways to gain him as a ruler:
    1) If he decides to rebel:

    https://i.redd.it/pk1whk4fx2v31.png

or if Ulugh Beg dies before Abu Sa'id launches his rebellion:

    The Western Rebel

Now, going back to the starting position, we must talk about the traitor of this whole affair, the governor of Qom, Muhammad bin Baysonqor. Shah Rukh at the start of the game will either have the option to stampede this traitor, or to leave him to his own demise.

Now, you're aware of the starting Timurid mission Stampeding the Traitor, there have been adjustments into it as well:

There is much more stuff to dig in for this whole family mess, either made by me or my fellow modders, but I believe this more than enough content for this week!

    The End

Thanks for reading! If you want to discuss the content shown here, feel free to do so in the comments of this post, or to visit our Discord Server, and discuss it there.
