    How to use scorched earth?

    Posted: 04 Jun 2021 12:20 PM PDT

I have recently been told by the wonderful users of this subreddit that Scorched Earth is really good. I tried to ask how to utilize it effectively, but didn't get an in-depth answer.

So, how does one use the scorched earth ability effectively?

[1.31.4] PSA: A significant amount of the lag late game is caused by the "Create States" Flag, dismissing it improves performance substantially.

I found this by accident on my recent one faith on 1.31.0, but I have been messing around in the console and verified that it is true for 1.31.4. The blue flag that shows you states that you can create when you have excess governing capacity is causing a large amount of lag when you have a lot of available potential states.

In the first image you can see the blue flag is on the bar, and I was experiencing poor performance. In the second image, I had right clicked on the flag, dismissing it until I reloaded and the performance immediately improved substantially. When I reloaded and the flag reappeared, performance degraded again.

You can test this by integrating a bunch of land in the console so you have a lot of available states, and then giving yourself a bunch of governing capacity (I did this by giving myself a ton of reform progress, and then spamming the increase governing capacity with reform progress button). The moment you have spare governing capacity and the blue flag appears on the bar, performance tanks.

    Completely ruined my Austria game

    Posted: 04 Jun 2021 12:53 PM PDT

Was playing Austria, best Ironman game I've ever had. Had Bohemia, Hungary, Milan, and a very chunky Burgundy under PU, the HRE (mostly) under control, and all HRE land outside of burgundy back under the princes.

In the middle of a war with Venice and Genoa to get more land for my Milan PU, I got an even where Braden offered to form a PU with me (had María Teresa as my monarch) and didn't read the text correctly. Just lost all my PU's and ended up as a PU under a four Provence Braden. I'm so upset, have less than 1,000 hours in the game and this was the best run I've ever had on Ironman. Gonna take some time away from EU4, that stupid bloody event was a game killer. If anyone else gets gets the event where a a nation offers a PU - make sure you read the fine print so you don't screw it up like I did haha
