Anglican Buff Idea: High/Low Church Slider

    Posted: 18 Feb 2021 11:54 AM PST

As it stands in the game, Anglicanism is generally considered the worst of the Christian faiths due to its weak bonuses and poor diplomatic situation. I suggest a buff to fix both, grounded in history!

Historically, the High Church is the more Catholic side of the Anglican church, and the Low Church is the more Protestant one. We can make this into a game mechanic by having a "High/Low Church in Power" slider similar to the Statists vs. Orangists in the Dutch Republic.

When the High Church is in power:

    • Enables the Expel Puritans ability (speeds up progress of current Expel Minorities actions)

    • Increased relations with Catholic nations

    • Reduced unrest in Catholic provinces

    • +0.5 legitimacy, devotion or horde unity; +0.15 republican tradition (this stat could be different or higher; this is just an example)

When the Low Church is in power:

    • Enables the Dissolve Monasteries ability

    • Increased relations with Protestant, Reformed and Hussite nations

    • Reduced unrest in Protestant, Reformed and Hussite provinces

    • +1% missionary strength

You can change the status of the High/Low Church slider via events, by spending church power, or by hiring advisors of the corresponding religions.

    Eu4 DLC policy

    Posted: 18 Feb 2021 05:01 AM PST

I've seen some old threads here and there about people complaining about Paradox eu4 dlc policy.

I think that when eu4 was launched it was a good finished game. There are tons of things that were added over the years, but it doesn't mean the base game was broken or unplayable. Of course if you are used now to many new mechanics stepping back would feel awkward, but it doesn't mean the game was bad at that time.

I've been playing it with no dlcs (but I received many free updates) until last year. Then I bought 5 dlcs or so.

People complains because buying the game with all the dlcs is expensive, but I think it is a game that has been in development for almost 10 years now (if we include the dlcs) and a game where many of us has spent more than 1k hours. Is it really expensive?

Also, we have many choices: play only the base game, pick a couple of dlcs, buy them all.

If paradox didn't have this dlc system, eu4 wouldn't have the resources it has to keep evolving. Then we wouldn't have choices anymore, we'd only being able to buy the base game.

So my take is that if you are just a casual player, you can buy the base game, you will find it at 10€ and play a few hours. If you like the game more than that and spend a lot of time on it, it's up to you to decide which dlcs to pick.

I'd like to know what the rest of you think about that. Especially those of you that fully disagree with me, so I maybe get a different point of view.
